Jewelry Designs by Barbara Lowe

Sometimes when we travel across the internet we meet exceptional people who have exceptional talent. I want to introduce you to my beautiful new friend, jewelry designer, Barbara Lowe. "Queen Bea" to be exact. I discovered her beautiful jewelry when she purchased sets of my cards in my Etsy store Paper Nosh.

When I saw her picture, it was amazing as I thought she looked so much like me. I had to write and tell her I thought we were twins separated at birth ! ( I flattered myself ! ) It did turn out that we were the same age, even though the likeness I believe comes from some common ethereal interest more so than our physical similarities. Over the last year we have discovered a common thread and a kindred spirit that reaches across the pond and have formed a fun and enjoyable friendship.

Barbara Lowe's original designs of jewelry from necklaces, bracelets and exquisite earrings are each created one of a kind. Her vintage finds are equally beautiful and so unusual. Living in Kent in England she has access to some very beautiful "finds" from vintage fairs and from scouring antique shoppes for just the right piece to incorporate in a new design.

Barbara's background is equally interesting in that she worked for the famous Ossie Clark in the 1960's as his personal assistant and helped to dress the models before they walked the ramps to show some of Ossie's gorgeous flowing prints that were so coveted at that time. Manolo Blahnik has said of Ossie Clark's work: "He created an incredible magic with the body and achieved what fashion should do — produce desire." Ossie Clark and Ossie Clark for Radley clothes are highly sought after, and are worn by well known models like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

Later, Barbara worked for David Bowie, another fabulously talented and legendary star.
( Think Ziggy Stardust, The Young Americans, China Girl ).
Rolling Stone magazine ranked David Bowie 39th on their list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time .

The years Barbara spent with these talented people during the height of fashion and the English Invasion must of been so memoriable. I would of loved to have witnessed the goings on at King's Road in London in the late 1960's and early 70's !

At six feet tall Barbara is a formidable beauty with an exquisite fashion sense and fabulous talent. Above are a couple of wonderful clips I was able to get from her from that time in her life.
